Permanent Makeup Aftercare Guide

Proper aftercare is essential for ensuring beautiful, long-lasting permanent makeup results and protecting your skin. Please follow these structured instructions carefully during your healing journey.

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS & CARE SOLUTIONS

  • Initial Cleansing: In 2 to 3 hours following your procedure, wash your brows lightly with a slightly damp Q tip and an antibacterial or green soap. Non-scented orange Dial soap is a great option for this step.
  • Days 1 to 4 (Washing): Repeat the cleansing routine very gently. When washing, it should be done with extreme care and with hardly any water. Please avoid saturating your brows with water.
  • Barrier Film: Do not attempt to remove the barrier film if it was applied. Allow it to come off naturally in its own time.
  • Days 4+: After the initial 3 days of washing, you may very sparingly apply a suggested PMU aftercare balm to hydrate your brow area for dryness relief. Never overuse products; suffocating the skin with a thick layer of ointment can trap bacteria and cause congestion.

WHAT TO AVOID & DAILY LIFESTYLE RULES

  • No Picking or Rubbing: Do not touch, rub, pick, or scratch your brows following treatment or during the healing process. The flakes and scabs must fall off on their own. Forcing them off prematurely pulls the embedded pigment out with it, risking color removal, patchy results, or permanent scarring.
  • Managing Itching: You may find that your eyebrows will scab or become slightly dry following the treatment. If they itch, DO NOT SCRATCH them. You may tap them gently to alleviate the itch.
  • Moisture Control: If your eyebrows get wet accidentally during the healing process, pat them dry with a clean towel. DO NOT RUB. Do not soak the treated area in the bath, pool, or hot tub.
  • 14-Day Exercise Rule: No exercise for 14 days. After 14 days—when exercising—you must wear a sweatband to avoid getting sweat on the brow area.
  • 30-Day Activity Restrictions: For 30 days, refrain from swimming in salt water or chlorinated pools, saunas, hot yoga, steam rooms, or sun beds.
  • Sun Exposure: Do not expose the treated area to direct sunlight. After they are fully healed (30 days), always use a sunscreen to avoid fading from the sun.
  • Cosmetics & Daily Skincare: No makeup should be applied directly on the brows during the healing process. Avoid using your daily skincare products directly on the eyebrows. Keep all active skincare ingredients—especially retinol, glycolic acids, and alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs)—completely away from the area until it is fully closed.
  • Medical Procedures & Chemical Peels: If you are planning a chemical peel, or any other medical procedure, please inform your therapist of the PMU procedure you have had. These procedures should only be performed once your healing process is completely finished.
  • Giving Blood: If you are due to give blood after the procedure, please inform your nurse about the Permanent Make-up treatment you have had, as this might alter your eligibility or results.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE HEALING PROCESS

  1. Week 1 (Dark & Bold): The pigment will initially look much darker, sharper, and more intense than the final result. Mild redness, slight puffiness, and tenderness are normal for the first few days. Light flaking or peeling usually begins around Day 4 or 5.
  2. Week 2 (The Ghosting Phase): After the flaking drops away, your permanent makeup may suddenly look very light, patchy, or as if it has completely
disappeared. This is entirely normal; a fresh layer of new skin has grown over the pigment, temporarily masking it.
  3. Weeks 3 to 4 (The Return of Color): The skin cells finish regenerating, and the pigment gradually settles back up to the surface, revealing its true color and definition.
  4. Week 6 to 8 (Touch-Up): Once the skin is fully healed internally, your touch-up appointment is performed to fill in any minor gaps and perfect the shape.

CRITICAL HEALTH WARNING

While minor tenderness and standard light flaking are to be expected, it is vital to monitor your skin closely for actual complications.

Please consult a healthcare provider immediately at the very first sign of a potential infection. Watch out for the following warning signs:

  • Thick, raised, or crusty scabs that appear oozing or heavily congested
  • Yellow or green pus or discharge emitting from the treated skin
  • Increasing redness, swelling, or red streaks spreading away from the area
  • A hot, radiating sensation or throbbing pain that worsens over time
  • An unmanageable, severe itch accompanied by a fever or chills
